Spruce City is a website that allows one to try out multiple hobbies and find out what they truly like. They can find like-minded people on the site and learn, have fun together.
Project Overview
SpruceCity is a website specially curated for user who do not know where to start when picking up a new hobby, are easily discouraged as they cannot find people of the same interest or just do not know what they like! SpruceCity offers a wide variety of hobbies to choose from. Users are able to view works done by users of the same interest group, follow detailed classes or even subscribe for packages to receive items they need to start their hobby.
Why We Start This & Our Goal
Mainly this idea came from our own experiences. Most of us were cooped up at home during the pandemic and want to find something to entertain ourselves when we are at home, so what better way to do so than picking up a new hobby. I started to pick up crocheting and realised there were too many online videos and I did not where to begin and what and where to purchase the materials I needed. Therefore, we decided on a platform that can serve as a guide to users starting on a new hobby, what are the best tutorials, where to get the things you need, joining a community of the same interest and even getting latest events relating to the hobby that you have selected. Our goal is to allow everyone to find the joy in picking up a new hobby and exploring what are their interest.
Problem Statement & Challenges
Problem
- Not sure where to start ; the variety of platforms are confusing
- Easily discouraged ; cannot find people of the same interest
- Unsure of what they like ; too many hobbies to choose from
Solution
- Each courses will have recommended sites and tutorials to follow, guiding the users from easy to intermediate
- Each hobby will have its' own community so that users can share their progress and works
- Users can try a sample of the hobby and see if they enjoy it
Response Of Qualitative & Quantitative Research
User Research focuses on understanding the users need, wants and behaviours through observations, feedback methodologies and task analysis.
I followed two research methods i.e Quantitative and Qualitative analysis. In the qualitative analysis, I have interviewed 10 people who are interested in taking up new hobbies or already have a hobby. In the quantitative analysis, I have taken a survey of 10 people.
